Adverse effects/risks of acupuncture are relatively low, however, common side effects include soreness and minor bleeding or bruising where the needles were inserted.

‘Why can’t I get pregnant this time around?’ is a bugging question couples with secondary infertility often ask.

Well, here are a few other reasons you might consider:

Age: Fertility naturally declines as age decreases.

New Partner: Your new partner might have an undiagnosed infertility problem.

Worsened underlying fertility problem: You might have had endometriosis, subclinical PCOS or maybe your ovarian reserves were already decreasing. These issues might lead to a worsened fertility problem.

Weight Gain: This may lead to ovulation problems in women, and possibly impact sperm health in men.

Fertility Problem from Previous Pregnancy: Child birth may cause a pelvic infection or multiple D&C procedures may cause uterine adhesions or blocked fallopian tubes. Also, having a C-section, can cause a scarred tissue, which can impact fertility too.

Uterine fibroid can also be managed using medications that regulate your menstrual cycle, treating symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pressure. They don’t eliminate fibroid but may shrink them and manage the symptoms. Some of these medications include Tranexamic acid (Lysteda), Progestin-releasing intrauterine device (IUD).
Kindly consult a specialist doctor before considering any medication option.

For a woman who is less than 30 years, you should try for at least a year before getting worried. Women who are above the age of thirty should consider calling the doctor much sooner than this, preferably after six months.

The process of fertility treatment is usually a psychologically and emotionally trying time for most couples. Apprehension, suspense, conflict of emotions, these are the feelings couples go through while embarking on this great journey.
However, counselling helps prepare couples for what to expect on this journey. It helps to allay fears, smooth out issues, mitigate concerns and foster couple’s understanding of the procedures.

The process of adoption in Nigeria can take as long as 16-18 months. Being a parent is no easy task, so, anyone intending to adopt must be ready to go through the rigorous but rewarding journey.

The first step begins with choosing an adoption service provider. They are responsible for conducting a home study and they also assist with child placement.

Then, to be found eligible to adopt with the social welfare office in a state, fill out the home study document form and submit your application alongside the necessary documents as suggested by Dammybas.

If the prospective parent is found eligible and a child is available within the given state, a referral will be given. The child must be eligible for adoption according to Nigeria’s requirements.

At this stage, you gain access to temporary custody of the child. The Nigerian court determines the duration to establish the parent- child relationship.

Eventually, a court appointment will be scheduled to confirm or deny the Nigerian adoption application.

NOTE- The U.S. Consulate has no record of any licensed Nigerian adoption agencies. Prospective adoption parents should seek assistance from a Nigerian attorney to facilitate the adoption process. The U.S. Consulate maintains a list of licensed attorneys within various states in Nigeria.
